POSITION VACANCY - MURPHY LIBRARY - UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN LA CROSSE

POSITION TITLE: 	Collection and Resource Development Librarian

POSITION DESCRIPTION: Provides innovative leadership for collection
management across all formats (including monographs, periodicals, and
electronic resources).  Designs and evaluates processes that improve
services and achieve efficiencies in collection development. Utilizes
knowledge of current trends and established practices in publishing and
scholarly research to lead the campus and library in redesigning collections
and access to resources. Supervises 50% FTE. Other responsibilities:
reference desk (possible evening and occasional weekends), library
instruction, collegial governance, and professional service.

QUALIFICATIONS:  Qualifications required: ALA-accredited MLS, with second
master's degree required for tenure and promotion; minimum three years
professional library experience; excellent interpersonal and communications
skills. Qualifications preferred: significant experience managing library
collections.

SALARY: $36,000 - $43,000 depending on credentials and experience. 9-month,
tenure track Assistant Professor position with approximate 50% summer
appointment available. Excellent benefits package.

STARTING DATE: November, 2001

LOCATION: La Crosse is famous for its exceptional natural beauty. The city
(population 51,000 with a metropolitan area of over 100,000) is located on
the east bank of the Mississippi River below towering bluffs. Abundant water
and woodlands provide year-round recreation sites for skiing, hiking,
camping, biking, and other outdoor activities. La Crosse is also home to two
other colleges, a symphony orchestra, a wide variety of cultural events, and
superb health care facilities.

THE UNIVERSITY: The University of Wisconsin - La Crosse, founded in 1909, is
a public institution governed by the Board of Regents of the University of
Wisconsin system. With a faculty and staff of more than 450, UW-L serves
approximately 9,000 students from Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, Illinois, and
32 other states and 28 other countries. The 119-acre campus is located
within easy walking distance of downtown La Crosse in a residential section
of the city. The campus maintains the second-highest academic standard in
the UW-System.
