Subject: Nominations sought

You are invited to submit nominations for co-chair(s) of the ALCTS
Acquisitions Section's Acquisitions Librarians/Vendors of Library Materials
Discussion Group.

As you may know, the official charge of the Discussion Group is merely "to
stimulate and facilitate the free flow of ideas between and among
acquisition librarians and vendors of library materials".

The two co-chairs (typically one acquisitions librarian and one
representative from the vendor world) enjoy simultaneous one-year terms, and
the relatively light workload of coordinating twice-yearly discussions (at
ALA Midwinter and at ALA Summer (usually on Saturday mornings)).

Though just about anything goes, examples of recent discussion topics
include our Midwinter 2001 (in DC) meeting where we hosted a discussion of
libraries' affiliations with for-profit websites (earning commissions, etc.)
and our upcoming Summer 2001 (in San Francisco) where we'll conduct a
discussion about the impact of ebooks on libraries, vendors, and publishers
(the official announcement for which is forthcoming).

In any case, if someone you know (or you yourself) might be interested in
directing such discussions next year, please do submit nominees' names (with
brief professional bios) by Friday, June 8.

We'll compile the nominations (and, did I mention?, self-nominations are
welcome) into a ballot, and conduct the election right there at our meeting
at ALA (where the peaceful transition will occur).

Please send nominations (and/or any questions/concerns) to the (outgoing) DG
co-chairs:
