HEAD OF ELECTRONIC RESOURCE ACQUISITIONS/ SERIALS UNIT
Position has primary responsibility for acquisition of electronic
resources. Monitors the publishing industry, particularly as regards
trends toward electronic formats. Maintains contact with vendors and
publishers to negotiate license agreements and to maintain uninterrupted
access to electronic products. Works closely with the Electronic
Public Access Librarian in the Resource Services Department to provide
access to electronic resources. Works with Resource Services Librarians
to facilitate negotiation of license agreements. Maintains contacts
with librarians at other Hopkins libraries to coordinate joint selection
and provision of electronic resources. Acts as liaison with University
Purchasing for managing license agreements. Supervises Serials Unit of
the Acquisitions Department (7.5 FTE plus student assistants). Trains
support staff and provides on-going problem resolution. Sets work
priorities for the unit. Monitors performance of subscription agents.
Acts as liaison with Cataloging Department to ensure adequate workflow
and problem resolution. Participates as part of departmental managerial
team.
Required qualifications:
Masters in Library Science from an ALA accredited program or equivalent
education/work experience. At least two years serials experience in a
library. Prior experience with electronic publishing and licensing of
electronic products. Working knowledge of at least two western European
languages in addition to English. Knowledge of AACR2 and MARC.
Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheet, and relational database
programs such as MSWord, Excel, Access, etc. Proficiency with an
integrated library management system. Knowledge of serials industry and
publishing practices and trends. Prior supervisory experience. Strong
interpersonal and communications skills. Ability to work well with
colleagues, staff, and external clients.
Preferred qualifications:
Experience working in an ARL library. Knowledge of the Horizon
integrated library system.
