Acquisitions Librarian and Associate Head, Technical Services Department
Perkins Library System, Duke University

Manages, plans, and supervises all acquisitions operations to provide 
users with rapid access to library materials in all formats.  Establishes 
and maintains effective business relationships with book vendors and
subscription agents and oversees expenditures for a book and serials 
budget of over $7 million.  Assists in overall leadership of Technical 
Services to sustain and shape its role in the rapidly changing environment 
of information resources.  Reports to the Head, Technical Services 
Department. 

Required: master's degree from an ALA-accredited program or an equivalent
combination of education, experience, and training that demonstrates the
conceptual, analytical, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills 
required to manage and lead a complex operation; at least three years
of relevant professional experience in acquisitions and serials 
management; demonstrated success in supervising staff and administering 
acquisitions and serials work in an academic or research library; 
demonstrated knowledge of the domestic and foreign book and serial trade, 
including electronic information products; proven expertise in fiscal 
management and bibliographic control; excellent oral and written 
communications skills; and extensive experience with at least one 
bibliographic utility and an automated acquisitions system (OCLC and 
INNOVACQ preferred).  Highly desirable: reading knowledge of one or more 
European languages, knowledge of trends in e-book publishing, and 
familiarity with licensing of electronic resources. Salary and rank 
dependent on qualifications and experience; minimums are $34,800 for 
Assistant Librarian; $37,300 for Senior Assistant Librarian; $40,650 for 
Associate Librarian; $46,750 for Librarian.
