ASSISTANT HEAD, ACQUISITIONS DEPARTMENT (LIBRARIAN I or II)
The University of Massachusetts Amherst Library seeks candidates for the
position of Assistant Head, Acquisitions Department. Under general
supervision of the Associate Director for Collection Management,
responsibilities, include: assist the Head of the Acquisitions Department
in the Collection Management Cluster of the University Library; coordinate
and supervise day to day work activities in the department, and provide
creative leadership and direction in an increasingly collaborative and
quickly changing acquisitions environment.
QUALIFICATIONS
ˇ Master’s degree in library science from an American Library
Association-accredited library and information studies program by date of
hire.
ˇ Experience using spreadsheet software and preparing financial reports a
plus.
ˇ Ability to foster a collegial work environment that encourages change
and innovation. Ability to interact effectively and work productively,
collegially, cooperatively and collaboratively in planning, organizing
and supervising the work of others.
ˇ Knowledge of current and emerging trends in publishing and information
delivery, especially as related to the acquisition of monographs and
serials in an academic or research library.
ˇ Knowledge of MARC formats and national cataloging standards.
ˇ Ability to analyze work processes and plan for applications of
technology, ability to analyze and resolve difficult bibliographic and
ordering problems, and ability to handle multiple responsibilities in a
changing environment.
ˇ Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills.
ˇ Familiarity with library automated systems, preferably Innopac.
ˇ Reading knowledge of at least one modern European language preferred.
