Foreign Book Dealers Directories Survey

The Foreign Book Dealers Directories Survey, a Subcommittee of the ALA
ALCTS Acquisitions Section Publications Committee, asks your assistance
with the following brief survey.

The subcommittee publishes three directories of book dealers:

* Asia/Pacific --  http://www.ala.org/alcts/publications/asia/index.html

* Africa/Middle East --
 http://www.ala.org/alcts/publications/africa/index.html

* Eastern Europe/Former Soviet Union --
http://www.ala.org/alcts/publications/easteur/toc.html

The present directories, available at the URLs above, were originally
compiled from surveys of ARL libraries conducted between 1991 and 1995;
this project served to update the 1979 print publication Third World
Booksellers: a selected list of Bookdealers in Africa, Asia and Latin
America. (Latin America was eliminated as a category because of the
excellent directory published by SALALM). Since the surveys were completed,
the committee has worked to update information contained in the directories
and migrate it to the Web. All three directories have had their Master
Vendor Lists refreshed in the past year. The directories are available free
in this format, and no print editions are planned.

1. How often have you used the ALCTS Acquisitions Section foreign book
dealers directories:  ____never 	____occasionally	____regularly

2. Which sections of the directories do you find most useful?
a. ____Master vendor list (alphabetical by vendor name)
b. ____Country list
c. ____Vendors by institution who reported using them
d. ____Vendors by categories of materials supplied

3. What would make these directories more useful?

4. What other resources do you use to locate vendor information?

5. How useful would it be to have these directories updated regularly?

____not useful ____somewhat useful ____very useful

6. What additional comments do you have for the Directories subcommittee?
