Jackson Library at The University of North Carolina at
Greensboro is seeking experienced, energetic, and
innovative applicants for positions: Assistant Director for
Collection Management; Head, Access Services; Head,
Acquisitions; and Assistant Reference Librarian. Our
190-acre campus is located one mile from the center of
Greensboro, a city of more than 200,000. The University is
located in the Piedmont Triad (population over 1 million),
an area of great natural beauty, diverse industry, cultural
arts and mild temperatures. The University has more than
700 budgeted FTE faculty positions and FTE enrollments of

Assistant Director for Collection Management

Responsibilities: Provide leadership for collection
management activities. Work actively and closely with
library colleagues and teaching faculty to assess user
needs and collections to establish priorities, build
library collections, and integrate digital formats with
traditional formats; recommend, allocate, and monitor the
collections budget; prepare budget requests, reports, and
other collection management documents; develop, refine, and
articulate vision, policies, and procedures; coordinate the
library liaison program; supervise the Head of
Acquisitions/Serials and the Conservation/Bindery Division;
and work with appropriate committees and organizations to
further the work of collection management and the Library.
Requirements: ALA-accredited MLS; minimum of 5 years
relevant and progressively responsible collection
management experience in an academic research library that
serves the humanities, sciences, and social sciences; broad
understanding of a variety of academic disciplines and
faculty work and needs; significant experience in building
electronic and print resources and in developing and
managing collections budgets; knowledge and understanding
of trends and issues related to electronic and print
resources; demonstrated planning, organizational, and
leadership skills; demonstrated ability to foster a
collegial work environment and to coordinate the work of
others; and excellent oral, written, and interpersonal
communication skills. Advanced degree in discipline other
than library science desired. Deadline: February 9th or

Head, Acquisitions Department: Provide leadership for and
manage all aspects of monograph and serials acquisitions.
Other responsibilities will include participation in
collection management and may include participation in
public or other technical services, depending on candidate
qualifications and library needs. The successful candidate
will work closely with colleagues in the Library and with
teaching faculty.
Responsibilities: Participating in library-wide planning,
policy and priority decisions; managing the ordering,
receiving, and invoicing operations; supervising and
evaluating staff; projecting and tracking budgets;
collecting, analyzing and using data to improve operations
and services; preparing reports; working with approval
plans and gifts; participating in the selection and
monitoring of vendors; and coordinating work with Library
administration and other departments. Reports to the
Assistant Director of Collection Management.
Requirements: ALA-accredited MLS; . Minimum three years'
experience in academic library acquisitions or equivalent
related experience; supervisory experience; a demonstrated
understanding of acquisitions operations and their effect
on work flow within the library; knowledge of emerging
information technologies and issues in scholarly
communications; experience in dealing with licensing
issues; and experience with automated acquisitions and
serials (preferably DRA). Excellent interpersonal,
communication, problem-solving, and computer skills.
Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, students,
staff, and donors, and in the rapidly changing environment
of information technology. Strong service orientation
essential. Strongly desired: Subject master's degree.

Salary and benefits: salaries are competitive and
commensurate with qualifications and experience.
These positions are twelve-month tenure-track faculty
positions. Demonstrated professional achievement service,
and scholarly/creative activity are required for
reappointment and tenure. Standard state benefits include
state or optional (including TIAA/CREF) retirement plans
and 24 vacation days a year.
