PROFESSIONAL LIBRARIAN - TECHNICAL SERVICES LIBRARIAN
ITHACA COLLEGE LIBRARY
The Technical Services Librarian is responsible for managing and
coordinating the acquisitions, cataloging, processing and bindery
activities of the Technical Services Unit and involves supervision of
six Technical Services Assistants and student employees.
Responsibilities include developing and maintaining a service oriented,
efficient and effective technical services unit; assessing policies,
procedures and workflow on an on-going basis; developing staff training
programs and preparing documentation for technical services functions;
performing original cataloging of monographic and serial items for the
OCLC database as needed. The Technical Services Librarian reports to the
Assistant Director for Collection Services and is a member of the
Electronic Journals Working Group, the Bibliographic Integrity Committee
and the Collection Services Managers Team.
Required qualifications: MLS from an ALA accredited library school;
knowledge of current cataloging standards, national trends and
application of emerging technologies in technical services; experience
using OCLC, AACR2, LC Classification and Subject Headings, and an
integrated library system; ability to work effectively in a
collaborative setting and to balance varied responsibilities; good
working knowledge of personal computers with ability to use word
processing, database, and spreadsheet software; and, outstanding oral
and written communication skills, organizational and analytical skills.
Two years experience managing a technical services unit in an academic
library desired.
